About The Artist
Veronica Newell is a mixed media artist based in Surrey BC. She creates colorful paintings with a surreal quality, depicting nature and wildlife in compositions that include patterns, mandalas, text or rich layers. She utilizes a variety of materials and tools to create her art, such as paper, fabric, acrylic paint, palette knives and stencils. Veronica has a professional background in physiotherapy and administration, with an artistic background in quilting. Her training in quilting guides her unique design choices, and she utilizes pattern in an organic way to represent subjects or to frame nature. To connect the structure of quilting to the subject of her work, she sometimes incorporates layers, mosaic effects, and geometric shapes. Travels to Europe, Asia and Morocco greatly influence her work. She seeks to connect these memories in a decorative way to her West Coast life and surroundings.
Veronica is an active member of the Federation of Canadian Artists and has shown her work in various juried art shows. She serves on the board of directors of the South Surrey and White Rock Art Society, and is committed to supporting the local art community. In good weather, Veronica can be found painting outdoors and showing her work on the Artist’s Walk at White Rock Beach. |
